For more inclusive and representative information
100esperte, the online database of female experts , was created to respond to a gender imbalance ( gender gap ) that is still evident in the way information reports reality: women continue to be less present than men as authoritative sources, commentators and experts. The data from The Global Media Monitoring Project 2025 confirms that, nationwide, only 30% of people seen or heard in the news are women.
A photograph that makes it even more urgent to broaden the voices called upon to explain and interpret the phenomena of our time.
The project was launched in 2016 under the name "100 donne contro gli stereotipi", an initiative of the Osservatorio di Pavia and Gi.U.Li.A. Giornaliste , developed by the Bracco Foundation and with the initial support of the European Commission Representation in Italy . At the heart of the project is the online database 100esperte, which offers direct contact with experts in various fields: a free, searchable tool designed for journalists, editorial staff, event organizers, institutions, schools, universities, and cultural organizations seeking to identify authoritative, up-to-date, and publicly accessible female expertise.
The disciplinary areas of the experts
The database was launched in 2016 with the STEM area, a field historically marked by gender stereotypes yet strategic for scientific, technological, economic, and social development. Over time, the project has expanded to include new disciplinary and professional areas: Economics and Finance (since 2017), International Politics (since 2019), History and Philosophy (since 2021), Sports (since 2023), and Geography (since 2026). Additional areas will follow.
A scientific committee for each area
Each area is created with the contribution of a dedicated scientific committee and according to selection criteria Rigorous, designed to ensure authoritativeness, quality, and methodological consistency. Once launched, the areas continue to grow over time, welcoming new profiles and updating the database in line with evolving knowledge, professions, and public debate.
Exhibitions, publications and training
Alongside the database, 100esperte has progressively developed cultural and narrative tools to extend the project's messages beyond the website and reach diverse audiences. These activities, explored in greater detail in the dedicated section, are divided into three main areas: photography exhibitions, publications, and training courses for journalists, schools, and educational settings.
Enhance women's skills to inform
Valorizing the expertise of women experts means contributing to richer, more accurate, and diverse information, capable of recognizing the contributions of women in various fields of knowledge, research, professions, and society. It also means offering concrete tools to counter stereotypes, broaden our sources, and build a more realistic imagery.
