Bio
After graduating in Physics from the University of Milan in 1993, she pursued scientific training in physics applied to medicine (more recently to cultural heritage and the environment), particularly in applications of diagnostic imaging combined with advanced computational techniques. Since 1997, she has been a Researcher at the Institute of Bioimaging and Molecular Physiology of the National Research Council. From 2010 to 2016, she was a contract professor at the University of Milan-Bicocca. She gained experience in research leadership through the creation and management of her own research group at the IBFM-CNR, which in 2011 consolidated into a research laboratory comprising 10 researchers with expertise in bioimaging physics, computer science, biology, and biotechnology.
He has achieved important scientific results in: 1) physical characterization of diagnostic imaging systems, especially positron emission tomography (PET), single photon emission tomography (SPECT), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fluorescence/bioluminescence imaging , and near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), 2) development of diagnostic image acquisition and processing methods for medical and cultural applications, 3) development of methods and models for the correction of physical effects, noise sources in diagnostic imaging studies, 4) development of methods for quantification and feature extraction from diagnostic images, 5) creation of synthetic medical image databases for the validation of medical image processing and quantification methods.
Since 2010, she has coordinated scientific research projects and presented her research findings in over 50 seminars and lectures at national and international conferences, universities, and research institutes. She co-invented four software programs for extracting and quantifying biomarkers from images and biomedical data, used in healthcare facilities both domestically and internationally. From 2012 to 2015, she served as a mentor for two spin-offs in the biomedical technology sector.
