Elizabeth Comini

Expert in sensors, fuel cells, metal oxides, nanostructures and nanomaterials.

Role

Full Professor at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Brescia and Director of the SENSOR Laboratory.

Bio

After graduating in Experimental Physics in 1996 from the University of Pisa, she earned a PhD in Materials for Engineering from the University of Brescia in 2000. From 1999 to 2001, she was a technologist at the INFM; since 2001, she has been a researcher in Physics of Matter at the University of Brescia, where she has been a full professor of Experimental Physics of Matter.

She specializes in the growth of metal oxides , particularly nanowires, thin films, and quasi-one-dimensional structures, and in the measurement of their electronic, functional, and structural properties. Since 2002, she has been responsible for the research line on quasi-1D nanocrystalline metal oxide structures at the SENSOR laboratory, which she has directed since 2017. The laboratory designs and develops materials and processes for devices and systems intended for functional applications, with activities in the fields of ICT, nanomedicine, renewable energy, food, and security.

His research on quasi-one-dimensional oxide nanostructures contributes to the development of chemical and gaseous sensors , optoelectronic devices, and nanomaterial- based platforms.

She has authored over 480 peer-reviewed articles and is actively involved in the international scientific community of sensors and advanced materials. She has received awards from Eurosensors and the Materials Research Society; she actively participates in the editorial boards of international journals in the field and has chaired the steering committee of the Eurosensors international conference since 2025.
