Role
Professor Emerita of Information Processing Systems at the University of Brescia.
Bio
After graduating with honors in Physics, majoring in Cybernetics, from the University of Milan, Valeria De Antonellis began her career in computer science there, first as a CNR fellow, then as a university researcher and associate professor. In 1991, she continued her academic career at the Polytechnic University of Milan.
In 1994, she became a full professor of Computer Engineering and was appointed to the University of Ancona, where she directed the Institute of Computer Science. In 1996, she moved to the University of Brescia, taking up the chair of Information Systems. From 2010 to 2016, she served as the Rector's Delegate for Innovation in University Information Systems and as President of the Library System. She has been a professor emeritus since 2021.
Her research focuses on databases, information systems, and the web, with a focus on conceptual modeling, semantic integration of data, processes, and services, and design methodologies. She is known for coordinating the CNR-DATAID project, which produced the DATAID-1 methodology for database design. Significant results relate to the Semantic Web, search and ranking of data and services on the web, ontologies, and semantic interoperability.
Over time, he has proposed models, methods, and tools for managing and exploring Big Data, with applications in strategic areas such as smart cities and Industry 4.0. His current research focuses on the use of Large Language Models to integrate semantic knowledge and contextual explanations into Big Data Analytics processes.
