Bio

Professor Manuela T. Raimondi holds a degree in mechanical engineering and a PhD in bioengineering from the Politecnico di Milano, where she is a full professor of bioengineering and heads the mechanobiology group. She has held visiting professorships at institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania in the United States.

Ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide, she is a leading European researcher in new methodological approaches (NAMs) to replace, reduce, and refine animal experimentation (3Rs), including microphysiological systems for stem cell culture, organoids-on-a-chip, and implantable miniaturized imaging windows .

His work has received numerous awards, including being appointed Chair of the PE8 panel for the evaluation of ERC-Advanced grants and serving as President of the ERCinItaly APS association, which brings together Italian ERC winners.

He has managed as principal investigator over 10 international competitive research projects, including five prestigious grants ERC (one Consolidator - NICHOID – won in 2014, one Advanced - BEACONSANDEGG – won in 2021 and three Proof-of-Concept ).

She is the first woman in Italy to win an ERC Advanced Grant in engineering. Her scientific work has resulted in over 400 publications, 10 patents, and the university spin-off company MOAB srl, which markets precision platforms that replicate tissue behavior in real time. She serves as President and Scientific Director of MOAB srl.
