Role
Senior Researcher at the EUCENTRE Foundation (European Centre for Research and Training in Earthquake Engineering) in Pavia
Bio
Chiara Casarotti graduated in Civil Engineering/Architecture from the University of Pavia, where she obtained a PhD in Earthquake Engineering in 2004. After carrying out research as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the University of California San Diego, she has been collaborating with EUCENTRE since 2006, where she has been a researcher since 2011.
His scientific and professional activity focuses on earthquake engineering, emergency planning, damage assessment of buildings and infrastructure, and technical emergency management. He has gained extensive experience in rapid response to seismic events, participating in national and international projects on the subject and coordinating technical support for the Civil Protection Department on the part of the foundation during major Italian earthquakes, including L'Aquila (2009), Emilia (2012), and Central Italy (2016).
At EUCENTRE, she currently coordinates emergency response activities, handles civil protection planning, and co-coordinates the Advanced Surveying & Digital Modeling Laboratory, dedicated to advanced surveying, structural monitoring, and digital modeling. In this area, she focuses on the use of innovative technologies for post-event damage assessment and decision support, through the complementary use of surveys from unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and Earth observation (EO) data, leveraging artificial intelligence models for damage detection and classification.
