Bio
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Padua in 1972, he continued his training with a specialization in Endocrinology at the University of Pavia, a period as a research fellow at the Ludolf Krehl Klinik of the University of Heidelberg and a specialization in Internal Medicine at the University of Padua.
She has held academic positions at the Universities of Pavia, Padua, and Sassari, where she founded and directed the School of Specialization in Gerontology and Geriatrics . From 1999 to 2017, she directed the General Medicine Unit at the University Hospital of Padua. From 2013 to 2017, she held the first Italian chair of Gender Medicine; she is currently a full professor and senior scholar at the University of Padua.
Her research focuses on aging, longevity , and gender differences in health, with a particular focus on cardiovascular and metabolic diseases . In 2009, she founded the National Study Center on Health and Gender Medicine, of which she is president, contributing to the spread of gender -specific medicine in Italy.
She is the founder and scientific editor of the Journal of Sex- and Gender-Specific Medicine, and the author of monographs and numerous scientific publications. In 2020, she was appointed to the Technical-Scientific Committee for the management of the Covid-19 emergency; from 2022 to 2025, she served as a member of the Superior Health Council.
