Bio
After graduating in Chemistry from the University of Milan in 1993, she earned a PhD in Chemical Sciences in 1997. From 1999 to 2014, she was a researcher in Analytical Chemistry at the same university, subsequently continuing her research at the Department of Chemistry. Appointed associate professor in 2015, she currently holds the position of full professor of Analytical Chemistry. She is the author of 210 scientific publications in international journals.
His scientific work focuses on environmental chemistry and the characterization of environmental matrices, with a particular focus on atmospheric aerosols, gaseous pollutants, and particulate matter in both indoor and outdoor environments. He has developed analytical methods for the quantification of levoglucosan, a marker of wood combustion, and studies substances of toxicological interest. In urban environments, he analyzes the degradation caused by air pollution on stone surfaces of historical and artistic interest and the contaminants present in drinking water and wastewater.
Her research focuses on analytical chemistry applied to cultural heritage, with a particular focus on the use of portable instrumentation and non-destructive diagnostic techniques for the characterization of constituent materials, execution techniques, and the state of conservation of artworks. She has primarily studied paintings on canvas, both ancient and contemporary, alongside the analysis of other historical artifacts, including ceramics, mortars, and stuccos. She coordinated the UNIMI Spoke 6 unit (History, Conservation, and Restoration of Cultural Heritage) within the PNRR CHANGES - Cultural Heritage Active Innovation for Sustainable Society project.
