Maria Grazia Daidone

Expert in oncological biology, biobanks, and molecular research applied to female tumors

Role

Scientific consultant and expert in tumor biomarkers, former Director of the Department of Experimental Oncology and Molecular Medicine at the IRCCS Foundation National Cancer Institute of Milan

Bio

After graduating in Biological Sciences from the University of Milan in 1976, she continued her training at the oncology laboratory of the Tucson Health Science Center in the United States. She then completed a specialization in Medical and Biomedical Statistics at the University of Milan in 1997. In 1985, she became a professor at the Italian School of Senology and in 2001, a professor for the Master's program in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Senology at the University of Siena, positions she still holds today. She is also head of the Department of Experimental Oncology and Molecular Medicine at the Milan Cancer Institute.

Maria Grazia Daidone's primary interests are the study and characterization of high-potential tumor cells. This includes translational studies in human solid tumors to identify biomolecular markers/profiles that lead to diagnosis, prognosis, and response to specific treatments, as well as the study of resistance mechanisms to anticancer agents (drugs and/or hormones). Preclinical research on biomarkers and the interactions between tumor cells and the immune system is an important support for cancer treatment and care. Specifically, Maria Grazia Daidone is engaged in research on breast, ovarian, and cervical cancer cells. Daidone also coordinates quality control programs for the formulation and proposal of guidelines for the clinical use of biomarkers and for the collection and preservation of biological material (BioBanks).
