She is the Chair of the Master's Degree Program in International Sciences. Anna Caffarena has researched how ideas and representations influence foreign policy decision-making; international regimes, including institutionalized cooperation, international organizations, multilateralism, and the international order. She has participated in several research projects of national interest (PRIN), the latest of which focused on Italian foreign policy. She is currently part of an international research network investigating China's role in the contemporary international system. She focuses on two major themes: continuity and change in global politics from the perspective of ideas and representations; and the impact of emerging actors, particularly China, on the changing order and the future of multilateralism.
